Just a shadow of the beauty Rex would later create, the band's self-titled debut has its moments but is flawed overall. Certain aspects of the band's personality were already in place -- particularly the long, repetitive songs and penchant for turning very quiet songs into very loud ones -- but the songwriting and production were lacking. Halves of songs are great, particularly the first part of "Nothing Is Most Honorable Than You," but tend to suffer when the guitars crash in. Whereas the band's meandering would later prove fruitful, on their first album, it's mostly just pointless. ~ Josh Modell
