Ride Through the Country by Colt Ford - DeepRiffs

Leave it to former PGA golf pro Colt Ford to braid the diametric genres of country and rap with natural sounding results. His debut album Ride Through the Country plays less like a novelty and more like the honest product of growing up in late-20th-century Georgia, where being surrounded by equal parts country music and hip-hop was as normal as turning the dial on your radio. Before coming into his own, Ford co-wrote songs with new traditional singer Jamey Johnson, the alt rock band Lit, hip-hop writer Attitude, Bone Crusher, and Montgomery Gentry. With Ride Through the Country favors are returned as John Michael Montgomery helps open with some twangy guitar and throaty vocals that bob and weave effortlessly through Ford’s down-home rhymes. Johnson belts out brew loving lyrics on “Cold Beer” next to Ford’s well- metered verses. Attitude pipes in on the mellow-grooving “Saddle Up.” Lit’s Sunny Ledfurd lends some flowing vocals on “Waffle House” and Bone Crusher helps crunk up “Gangsta of Love.” The southern-rocking rendition of Gene Watson’s “No Trash In My Trailer” is a sing-along standout, with Mike Dekle singing the chorus.
