If you're looking for death metal so brutal that subtlety never enters its musical lexicon, then Finland's
Scent of Flesh will fit the bill perfectly. Even the occasionally melodic passages which pepper songs like "Dark Years of Carnage" and "Towards Eternal Lost" are mere decoys, quickly giving way to frighteningly savage, blast-beat-intensive death metal workouts. Even going so far as to flirt with dissonant guitar effects, the band's bruising riffs prove to be downright exhausting by album's end, and even the most experienced of death metal enthusiasts will feel challenged by its uncompromising wall of oppression. Still, whatever diversity gets lost in the crush is mostly made up for by the band's utter commitment to its dark vision. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
