Ron Kaplan clearly loves to sing, and his musical role models are
Frank Sinatra and
Tony Bennett. He puts plenty of sincerity into this set of duets with pianist
Weber Iago, and it almost compensates for the unadventurous interpretations, occasional missed notes, and so-so intonation. Perhaps singing in a saloon before a chattering audience would be an ideal location for the vocalist, but on a studio session documented forever, the results are merely listenable and pleasant. ~ Scott Yanow
