As evidenced over the years, "comedy metal" can be all over the map, from
Spinal Tap to
Green Jelly. Picture a more straightforward and less abstract (from a songwriting standpoint) take on
Mr. Bungle's self-titled album from 1991 and you won't be far off from the approach that the chaps in
Psychostick offer on their 2009 release,
Sandwich, as evidenced by such ditties as "Caffeine," "Girl Directions," and "Vah-jay-jay" (the latter of which is a brief tune about a certain part of the female anatomy). Just when you thought vintage late-'90s funk-metal freakouts had inhaled their last breath, along comes
Psychostick's
Sandwich. ~ Greg Prato
