David Thomas Roberts, one of the finest ragtime composers since the 1980s, pays tribute to the most famous ragtime composer of all,
Scott Joplin. He performs 15 of
Joplin's best rags in straightforward fashion without improvisation.
Roberts certainly feels the music although his interpretations are conventional and the music is programmed somewhat randomly, without any attempt to trace
Joplin's development chronologically. Ragtime fans will enjoy these versions of
Joplin pieces even if the overall results are a bit predictable. ~ Scott Yanow
