Simon, this arty quintet offers a six-song EP that will serve as a prelude to a proper full-length effort that will rear its head at some other point in the future. Picture a more mainstream or focused
Mr. Bungle, and it's a fair description of the kind of unpredictable rock music the
Dirty Little Rabbits specialize in. And singer Stella Katsoudas adds a whole other element to the proceedings, as she can shapeshift her voice from sounding like
Portishead's
Beth Gibbons on the verses to "You Say" before getting a bit
Gwen Stefani-like on the chorus of "Hello" or throughout "I'm So Beautiful." As expected, the musicians in the group have to be quite skilled at their instruments to keep pace with all the nuttiness, and rest assured, these lads have undoubtedly spent some serious time in a rehearsal space, as evidenced by the aforementioned standouts. ~ Greg Prato
