Like the first Six Feet Under soundtrack, Everything Ends provides an eclectic musical backdrop for the acclaimed HBO TV series. While certain songs here are obviously appropriate for a show about a family that runs a funeral home -- the Caesars' cover of the classic rock staple "(Don't Fear) the Reaper," Radiohead's morbid "Lucky" -- others are surprisingly upbeat and life-affirming, particularly Nina Simone's sweeping 1965 take on "Feeling Good" and Phoenix's pop-perfect "Everything Is Everything." Indie rock fans will be especially pleased to note the inclusion of previously unreleased tracks by Interpol and the Arcade Fire (the looming "Direction" and the delicate "Cold Wind," respectively); both songs are suitably melancholy and well placed in this well-selected series-end collection. ~ Eric Schneider
