The subtitle says it all, really. This is mostly instrumental downtempo electronica that starts with laid-back beats and overlays them with melodies and samples that straddle the line between ambient pop and easy listening. The results are unfailingly pleasant, but the only songs that stick in the listener's mind after the album is over are
Sol Azul's slinky, bossa nova-influenced "Saudade da Manha" and Malola's "Waasova Def," a darker tune with heavy dub-influenced bass and a nagging reggae-style keyboard riff. The other ten tracks make for excellent chillout music, but don't necessarily repay closer listening: a certain sameness of production, arrangement, and tempo makes the songs blend together in what is undoubtedly exactly the way the producer/compilers intended. Slow, yes, and certainly nice, but those for whom that isn't quite enough might be disappointed. ~ Stewart Mason
