Smooth Jazz Tribute to the Best of Gerald Levert, like many other releases from CC Entertainment, features performances from
the Smooth Jazz All Stars -- an uncredited crew that dutifully breezes through a hit-oriented selection. Many of
Gerald Levert's biggest hits -- both as a solo artist and as a member of
Levert, including "Casanova," "(Pop Pop Pop Pop) Goes My Mind," "Private Line," and "DJ Don't" -- are given relaxed instrumental readings. A chintzy-sounding saxophone takes the lead, backed by a band (with some rhythm programming) that plays with little energy. Fans should stick with the originals. ~ Andy Kellman
