Frankie Ruiz's highly successful debut as a solo artist has attitude, fun, and
Ruiz's joyful vocal skills to boot, although the overall sound still owes a great deal to the
Tommy Olivencia sound (the majority of the recording personnel -- sidemen, arrangers, and TH producer Julio César Delgado -- work simultaneously with
Olivencia). However, salsa would begin a new chapter with this recording, since the norm for romantic salsa would be reserved for vocalists alone, for better or worse. The hits include "Ahora Me Toca a Mi," "Esta Cobardía," "Tu Con El," "La Cura," and "Amor de un Momento"; these landmark tunes helped to usher in a new era in salsa, a commercially weakened genre at the time. ~ José A.
