Hey, for a guy who's been around almost forever,
Glen Campbell's
Somebody Like That cooks nicely.
Campbell has always has good taste in songwriters and sidemen and his latest upholds this tradition, recruiting material from
Paul Overstreet,
Naomi Martin, and
Billy Burnette, among others. Only a couple of ballads are given schmaltzy arrangements; for the most part the tracks chug along in mid-tempo, semi-rockabilly fashion. Best bets here are "Swimming Upstream, Ain't It Just Like Love" and (especially) the chorus-kicking title track. For "Love's Old Song,"
Campbell indulges in some jazzy, country-swing. ~ Roch Parisien
