The Stereo Action series has its ups and downs; this one is surprisingly better than it would seem.
Textor made his living making jingles for radio and television. Unleashed here with an orchestra and a (mostly wordless) chorus of males and females, he lives up to his assignment. "Chorus" even gets first billing over "orchestra," meaning this is the vocal Stereo Action LP. No track is really great, although "Perdido" and "I Get a Kick Out of You" are close. No track is really abominable either. Consistent and unusual as it is, the album is essential only for Stereo Action completists. Fans of
Bob Thompson and
Esquivel may appreciate it too.
