The Australian band
the Rectifiers fuse country, space rock, and experimental motifs, and are happily against the grain of standard Australian pop rock. This, their first full length album, shows the group improving by leaps and bounds, especially in the area of songwriting. The team of Jo and Nick Volk (vocals, guitars and bass, backing vocals, respectively) shows traces of Gene Clark,
Fred Neil, and other classic '60s writers. The band maintains its spacey, Western grooves throughout the record, often sounding like a combination of
Pink Floyd and
the Flying Burrito Brothers. Multi-instrumentalist Todd Denham also shines with some atmospheric pedal steel playing. Fabulous.
