Lorellei's vocal album
Spiritus: Breath of Life glows with dewy radiance that can almost be inhaled. Her voice, ranging from whisper to wail, is skillfully reverbed and mixed until she becomes her own backup group. Although some cuts ("In a Vision of Love" and "Mind Thing") punch through with rhythmic vigor, the ambience here is definitely heaven-sent: liquid pearls, golden clouds, and intoxicating silver.
Lorellei (on vocals, keyboards, and 12-string guitar) is joined by
Dean Evenson (flutes), Steve Kindler (violin), Raphael (keyboards), and
Daniel Paul and Bob Conger (tablas and percussion). Other musicians, backup singers, a youth choir, and nature sounds contribute to the full and polished sound. Although the lyrics are printed in the liner notes, because of the reverb and overdubs, they tend to disappear into the musical textures. ~ Carol Wright
