Hot on the heels of their impressive Flash Flash Flash LP, the Explosion followed up with the Steal This EP, more the result of contractual obligations than a new record from the band. Coming out of an argument between bassist Damian Genaurdi and his former record label, the group was forced to record the condescendingly titled EP or face legal action. Regardless of what prompted the record, the five-track, nine-minute performance is still classic Explosion, and its only downside is the fact that it's almost over before it even begins. Included on the disc are some typically standout tracks, among them the trudging "Turnaround" and the group's cheer-inspired anthem, "E.X.P.L.O.S.I.O.N." Steal This is also a nice confirmation that the band's energy is still running strong, and while it is far from a complete record, there isn't a stale track in the bunch, making it a perfect follow-up to the inspiring record that came only months before it. ~ Peter J.
