From the outset,
Big Mike's delayed second album
Still Serious signals that it isn't that much different from his debut,
Somethin' Serious.
Big Mike is still working the same Southern rap territory as before -- it's simple, straight-ahead funk and hip-hop that occasionally dips into gangstaland. The production is as simple as the music, and its smooth, funky grooves let
Mike's rhymes move to the foreground. This time around, he has a more measured and reasoned attitude toward gangstas and guns, and his preaching helps balance the party raps that form the bulk of the album.
Still Serious doesn't offer anything new or unique, but what it does offer is good indeed. ~ Leo Stanley
