Mother Earth's
Stoned Woman falls halfway between jam-based hippie rock and jazzy funk. The group and its assorted guests rock out, laying into the groove and playing around with it. The problem is,
Mother Earth doesn't know when to stop working the groove, nor do they know what to do with it. That means
Stoned Woman is filled with meandering jams that don't amount to much of anything, even when they're playing their hearts out. Occasionally, the group shows some signs of life -- usually when they shorten their songs -- but overall,
Mother Earth seems directionless.
