Strange Interlude is an unusual, and unusually good, record on the Command label. "Gone with the Wind" features the theremin, an electronic instrument played by Walter Sear and Paul Lippman. "Wild Goose," "Intermezzo," and "Spellbound" feature ondioline, another electronic instrument lending strange sounds. "Spellbound" (from the movie) is a classic theremin track, and the switch to ondioline here is welcome. The tunes are good choices, beginning with "Riders in the Sky," and the instrumentation and performances live up to the title's promise. In the often tiresome Command catalog, it is indeed a refreshingly "Strange Interlude." ~ Tony Wilds
