Strange News from the Angels backs off from the sloppy indie-rock funnery of its predecessors to try its hand at more pensive, emotive work. The results are consistently solid -- while some may miss the Pavement-esque fuzz-pop of the band's mid-period, Strange News' maturity allows for a greater range of composition and a higher level of seriousness without completely leaving behind the band's tongue-in-cheek quirkiness. ~ Nitsuh Abebe
