The Arch/Matheos project is a reunion of Fates Warning founders Jim Matheos and John Arch, who parted ways in 1987 when vocalist Arch left the group after its third album, Awaken the Guardian. Matheos' appearance on Arch's 2003 EP Twist of Fate was the first indication of a new collaboration, but it took them until 2011 to finally release an entire album. Together with other Fates Warning musicians -- current bassist Joey Vera, former guitarist Frank Aresti, and current live drummer Bobby Jarzombek -- the duo recorded Sympathetic Resonance as a 54-minute prog metal album that is not a continuation of the 25-year-old Awaken the Guardian, but rather shows how Fates Warning might sound today if Arch had stayed with the band.
