ALBUM

Terra voelt als een poging om Mariza muzikaal mainstream te maken. Ze heeft zichzelf al bewezen in de voorhoede van het fado-genre, als een van de meest vooraanstaande performers van deze emotionele Portugese muziekstijl, en er bestaat geen twijfel over dat zij een geweldige stem heeft. Maar de toevoeging van verscheidene gastmuzikanten, zoals Chucho Valdés, Ivan Lins, en Tito Paris onder andere, lijkt de naden tussen fado en andere genres te openen, waaronder Braziliaanse muziek en jazz. Dit gebeurt op relatief subtiele wijze, en ze houdt de basis behoorlijk ferm in de fado (hoor bijvoorbeeld het glorieuze “Ja Me Deixou” aan). Haar duet met Paris op “Beijo de Saudade” is een hoogtepunt, waarin de stemmen op geweldige wijze op elkaar inspelen.
