Representing for Dallas, Texas, Big Tuck makes slow, woozy hardcore rap hand-carved in the studio for rolling in the jeep with the speakers booming. "Monsta," the lead-off track on the artist's 2006 release, THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH, is a case in point, a skull-rattling beat joined to a hands-in-the-air chorus. There are moments of dynamic subtlety, like the Erykah Badu-led cut "Ain't No Mistakin'," but the majority of the disc delivers slamming, head-nodding hardcore in the Dirty South tradition. A true grass-roots phenomenon, Big Tuck achieved tremendous success selling his music independently, but THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH indicates that the rapper is ready for a call-up to the bigs.
