Platinum Disc's two-CD collection
The 70s has it over many sets of this nature by actually featuring the original recordings of the 20 songs included. That being said, the packaging is terrible and the song selection could be better (of all the great
Cher songs, why "Dark Lady"?), but there are enough big-name stars on hand (
Elton John,
Jim Croce,
Marvin Gaye) and classics like
Three Dog Night's "One,"
Rupert Holmes' "Pina Colada (The Escape Song),"
Peter Frampton's "Show Me the Way," and
Foreigner's "Cold as Ice" to make it interesting to someone who wants a very, very broad and scattered look at the decade.
