Apparently, 21st century surf rocker Jack Johnson's simple, mellow chords and melodies lend themselves well to fiddle, banjo, guitar, and mandolin, as evidenced on
The Bluegrass Tribute to Jack Johnson, a collection of 12 of his songs from four of his albums (including "Upside Down" from the
Curious George soundtrack). The musicians here can't completely escape from über-radio-friendly harmonies, which give this particular branch of bluegrass a very poppy feel, but it's enough to pleasantly entertain both lenient bluegrass and Johnson fans. ~ Marisa Brown
