Dub Album is the dub version of
Black Uhuru's debut album,
Love Crisis, which originally appeared in 1977, then was remixed and re-released under a new title in 1980 as
Black Sounds of Freedom. This same dub set appeared on CD in 1994 as
Love Dub from Rohit Records and most of the tracks also showed up on 2001's
In Dub from Dressed to Kill, so these are by no means new mixes, or even particularly rare ones. They also aren't very striking, moving with more bluster than purpose, hitting all the right dub poses, but without much grace or nuance. Good dub flows like a succession of night waves breaking on a moonlit beach. This set, however, is more like Godzilla coming ashore, meaning it is obvious and clumsy, but -- to complete the monster metaphor -- it is impossible to ignore once it gets going. Best to stay out of its path.
