From the minds of Vitamin Records comes
Electro, the industrial tribute to
Rob Zombie. The album features PG-rated cover art resembling what a middle-school-aged
Zombie fan would mock up as an art-project tribute to the NC-17 stylings of his favorite astro creep. Unfortunately, the album follows a similar pattern musically. It focuses on material from
Zombie's two solo albums, as well as representative tracks from the
White Zombie catalog proper.
Electro isn't bad, per se. It's fun, kind of like seeing that same middle-school
Zombie fan play a set of covers at a talent show. But its production budget didn't allow for the studio doohickeys that transform
Zombie's music into an enormous tidal wave of sound. And without those air-raid siren guitars and soul-crushing drums,
Electro can only present industrial workouts that are ambitious, yet ultimately pedestrian. Motor Industries give "Demonoid Phenomenon" an appropriately psycho vibe that suggests
My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, while "Living Dead Girl" and "Iron Head" feature goofy voices and some creative programming.
