An Oi! record on Jade Tree? What happened to the nice-guy, catchy emo-pop for which this label has been so notorious? Even if this record is supposed to set an example that Jade Tree doesn't strictly release music from one specific genre,
the Explosion deserves to be more than just a breaker of classifications. This band produces catchy, singalong Oi!-punk anthems, taking their British influences from Blitz, the Business, and the Addicts. None of the members of
the Explosion were probably even born until after the punk movement of 1977, but that doesn't stop them from recapturing the moment. Just place these guys in the '90s revival of the U.S. Bombs,
L.E.S. Stitches, and
the Dropkick Murphys. ~ Mike DaRonco
