The debut album by Danish-born actor/musician Lyn Vaus,
The Floating Celebration is the kind of gently psychedelic album that on the one hand has its heart clearly in the right place but on the other doesn't seem to know how to make its best mark. Over the course of its length, Vaus and his bandmates create a series of understated groove shuffles that if anything recall the quieter moments of
Spacemen 3 spinoff band the Darkside, but without the completely fried edge that band was able to bring to its own take on rainy-night, moody-lighting post-
Doors styles. Occasionally things spike up a bit on
The Floating Celebration to good effect, as on "Prime" and "San Francisco," but there are ultimately no standout tracks on what's on balance an accomplished enough but not really inspiring album. ~ Ned Raggett
