The members of contemporary R&B quartet Ahmir hail from New York, Boston, and Philadelphia, but their vocal sound is so unified they might as well have grown up in the same household. With one foot in the classic R&B of the past and another in the hip-hop-influenced urban present, Ahmir mix it up in the best way on THE GIFT, the band's full-length debut. The singles "Welcome to My Party" and the dancehall-tinged club track "Right to Left," featuring King Ilabash, are standouts, but the entire album is impressive, suggesting that Ahmir is an R&B force to be reckoned with.
