It only takes a quick listen to Chris Tait's voice to figure out that Echo & the Bunnymen were a huge influence on Chalk Circle, and it becomes especially clear on tracks like "Big White Clouds." In other places, the band transcends its influences, with big jazzy jangles, metallic riffs, and more of a sense of fun. "April Fool" was the big hit in Canada, though "Superman (Meets the Man of Steel)" is the more interesting song. The CD reissue of the album tacked three bonus tracks onto the end of the album -- one of these, the band's cover of T. Rex' "20th Century Boy," became Chalk Circle's biggest hit. ~ Sean Carruthers
