The next in what's proving to be a good series,
The Greatest Salsa Ever, Vol. 3 compiles more tracks from
Celia Cruz (with
Johnny Pacheco here),
Willie Rosario,
Paquito Guzmán,
Willie Colón (with
Héctor Lavoe), and José "El Canario" Alberto, just to name a few. At this point, the theme for the collection is pretty clear: take songs from classic salsa artists and intersperse them with ones from the new generation. It's a formula that's worked well for them in the past, and continues to work well, and even though throughout the series there are a lot of repeats (
Colón and
Rubén Blades, for example, are both big favorites),
The Greatest Salsa Ever, Vol. 3 still ends up being a pretty decent album. ~ Marisa Brown
