The 11 tracks on this budget compilation were recorded for MGM Records before Hank Jr. had a string of hits in the '80s on Warner/Elektra/Curb. While these songs are good, they're not essential. Hank Jr. covers a variety of straight country material, including a version of "Satin Sheets," the Hank Sr. classic "Honky Tonkin'," and the bonus track "Free Born Man," which was co-written by the former lead singer of Paul Revere & the Raiders, Mark Lindsay. ~ Al Campbell
