The duo of Peter Parker and Sneaky, aka Fingathing, know a thing or two about records. Every textured break on The Main Event is so perfectly mixed that you'd swear it was done digitally. Not for these guys, though. Truly, the Fingathing duo is a pair of extremely talented turntablists working in a similar vein as Kid Koala or Rob Swift. Admittedly, they share more with Kid Koala, as their canvas is flecked with childlike humor and wickedly quick scratches. Needless to say, these need lists are big fans of outrageously obscure samples, and they use them at every chance. Their use of Classics IV's "Spooky" on "Come on Girls" stands out immediately as the most poignant and groovy homage on the record. From time to time the use of samples overshadows Fingathing's incredible skill, but listeners will undoubtedly recognize these two musicians as skilled purveyors of the genre. It's rare that discs released by scratch or battle DJs ever hold a candle to their respective live performances, but here Fingathing definitely defy convention. The production value of The Main Event is higher than a lot of digitally-produced electronic records and is also assembled with much more care. It is likely that too much care takes the happy sting out of a couple tracks on this disc but that is definitely the exception and hardly the standard. British audiences have been raving over Fingathing for ages. It's only a matter of time before the U.S. does, too.
