Practically any group of numbskulls can throw together a hardcore band. It may be the easiest form of music to play for those with no talent. But few have excelled beyond the pack of sound-alike East Coast and Orange County bands. Flinging some brutal-sounding metal guitar riffs into their relentlessly violent racket,
Turmoil is a behemoth from rural Pennsylvania that will not be put down. "Let It Die," a song about some band attempting to rehash its glory days, is musically complex for a hardcore band with numerous, fancy tempo changes and a menacing vibe worthy of
Slayer. The lyrics are almost all accusatory, straight-edge-style rants, while their musical barrage operates like a swarm of insects and is relentless and deafening. Music rarely gets much heavier than this. ~ Adam Bregman
