The self-imposed ten-year exile of country music's 1983 Female Vocalist of the Year has not dimmed the strength and resonance in Sylvia Hutton's voice in the least. She still has the same commanding presence, but the songs are a bit different in feel; there is more of an honest emotion that is manifested in her voice. No longer backed by that full and overwhelming Nashville sound, she instead uses a warmer, more sincere-sounding folk backing for her songs, which is a sparser, leaner sound that suits her. Hutton co-wrote seven out of the 13 songs on this album, put out on her own independent label, Red Pony. While the songs do tend to be a bit on the 'lite' side, the strength of her voice and the strong, clean production help to compensate for this drawback. This is a strong comeback disc for Hutton. ~ Bob Gottlieb
