A 23-track collection of various tracks that
Janis Joplin either covered or was influenced by, this set works just as well as a sequence without the
Joplin connection. When you can hear
Bo Diddley's calling card "Bo Diddley" next to
Wanda Jackson's "Silver Threads and Golden Needles," and then back it up with
Clarence Ashley's folk classic "The Coo Coo Bird," you've got yourself a nice little chunk of American music history, and yes, the roots of
Janis Joplin, too. ~ Steve Leggett
