A collection of 21 mostly blues tracks that either influenced or were covered by
the Doors, this set works just fine as an anthology even without
the Doors connection. And it isn't all straight blues, either, with songs like
Slim Harpo's wry and very much Excello swamp poppish "I'm a King Bee " and
the Viscounts' "Harlem Nocturne" also showing up here. Much of this set, though, is comprised of darkly themed blues tracks, not surprising considering
the Doors' often edgy output, and tracks like
Robert Johnson's timeless "Cross Road Blues" are always fun to hear.
