In 2001, Philippine independent Star Records released The Very Best of Jeremiah, a compilation of songs recorded by boy vocal group
Jeremiah for the label. The appearance of this album may strike some as premature, as
Jeremiah has recorded only two albums for Star Records, although other songs appeared on movie soundtracks, and one song was remixed for an album.
Jeremiah comprises five non-musician members. The group's sound is based on passionate, melodramatic renditions of easy listening love songs and ballads. The group's passionate singing often borders on being over the top, and, in some cases, it is over the top. Still, the members have good singing voices and exhibit much sincerity, which helps save the material from being unbearable. The opening song, "Nanghihinayang" (Regrets Letting the Chance Go By), was a big radio hit when first released in 1998 as part of a movie soundtrack, and it made the group famous. It is a melodramatic love song with a pleasant, if nondescript melody, and a listener can almost see the passion and melodrama oozing from the group. This song, however, would have a difficult time finding an audience outside the country. One of the few moderately spirited songs is the engaging "Girl of My Dreams," one of the album's best songs. "Closer You & I" is another nice song with a moderate touch of spirit. Most of the slow, easy listening love songs blur into one another, and it's sometimes difficult to tell them apart. Nonetheless, the ballads "Ganyan Ako" (That's How I Am), "Di Ko Kaya" (I Can't Make It), and "Oh Babe" provide interesting moments.
Jeremiah's rendition of "Dreaming of You," a posthumous, crossover hit for Tejano star Selena, is outstanding.
