Though he was born in America, cornetist Roy Fox is remembered as one of the prime movers of the British dance bands during the U.K.’s own swing era. After he immigrated to England, Fox established a dance band that was less jazz-oriented than Benny Goodman's and closer to the genial, swing-and-sway style of Sammy Kaye and Fred Waring. Yet Fox had a genuine affinity for American jazz tunes and could muster strong swing when he wanted to--see “Basin Street Blues” and “Caravan.”
