By the time this album was released in 1995, [wimpLink artistId="3643807"]the Battlefield Band[/wimpLink] had nothing left to prove. Twenty-five years of simultaneously carrying the torch of traditional Scots music and pushing the envelope of tradition had yielded well over a dozen excellent albums (and a couple that were merely very good) and had long since secured the band's place in the history books. So they could have been forgiven for coasting a bit. Nope. Keyboardist [wimpLink artistId="3879993"]Alan Reid[/wimpLink] is still writing top-notch songs (note, in particular, the wonderful "The Arran Convict"), Iain MacDonald still boasts the world's sweetest and most tasteful bagpipe tone, and the extremely young [wimpLink artistId="3580564"]John McCusker[/wimpLink] fiddles with the taste and skill of someone twice his age. (He's also no slouch as a composer, as the lovely "Miss Kate Rusby" makes plain.) Maybe not quite on a par with Anthem for the Common Man, this album nevertheless easily stands with the best of [wimpLink artistId="3643807"]the Battlefield Band[/wimpLink]'s work. ~ Rick Anderson
