With Sprinter, Mackenzie Scott aka Torres has nicely positioned herself in the guitar rock section à la PJ Harvey/Anna Calvi/Sharon Van Etten with a touch of Nirvana grunge. On this second album released in 2015, the Brooklyn-based American scowled and flexed her muscles, with the help of Adrian Hutley, the excellent guitarist from Portishead, as well as Ian Olliver and Rob Ellis, two former accomplices of PJ Harvey’s, as it happens… Her charisma still dazzles in spades on this Three Futures released two years later and also made with Ellis. But it’s a more muted version, more melancholic. And this time, her rock slightly slides towards other grounds. From industrial to gothic to electric sequences or even Krautrock, Torres curls up in a dark and fascinating atmosphere. It’s an enchantment inhabiting each and every song of the third album of an artist who deserves to attract a bit more of the limelight... © CM/Qobuz
