Throttle by The Razzels - DeepRiffs

The Razzles serve up 15 slabs of hooky but high-octane punk on their sophomore outing, Throttle. The Razzles sound a good bit meatier than the current wave of hooky teenage pop-punkers with numbers at the end of their name, thanks to the metal-influenced body and crunch of Whitey's guitar, and the songs offer plenty of velocity (thanks to the hard-working rhythm section of Mike on bass and Jeff on drums) along with sharp tunes and tight harmonies. However, while the Razzles play this stuff pretty well, as songwriters they don't have much in the way of a fresh or original outlook to bring to the table, with girls, cars, and stuff that annoys them (which sometimes includes girls) dominating the band's lyrical stance. In short. Throttle isn't offering anything that's going to change your life, but if you're looking for 38 minutes of rock & roll that's long on punch and short on filler, this will fill the order nicely. ~ Mark Deming
