Paulinho Boca de Cantor launched his career as a singer and composer in the late '60s in Os Novos Baianos' group. This solo release is dedicated to samba, in its different Bahian and Carioca styles. Covering his own compositions and classics by the best samba composers, like "Preto, Mulato E Branco" (Ataulfo Alves), "Nega Dina" (Zé Keti), "Xingu" (Paulo César Pinheiro/João Nogueira, with special guest João Nogueira), "Sala de Recepção" (Cartola), "Manhã de Carnaval" (Luís Bonfá/Antônio Maria), and others, Boca de Cantor is good as a sambista, and even if he is not the paradigm in the sector, the album as a whole, with its expert acoustic samba instrumental backing, is a convincing and sincere release.
