This album is a compilation of 14 songs that originally appeared all over the place on various splits and comps and whatnot. The production isn't always fluid given the material's diverse sources, yet the general feel is still that of an incredibly sick-sounding metal-hardcore band ramming its instruments down your throat (that's a good thing). Vocalist
Dave Walker has some of the most deadly throaty vocals in the hardcore scene and even does some singing on the album. The lyrics that
Walker works with are far superior to the average hardcore act and require a listener willing to think and not just mosh.
Harvest might normally be lumped in with the "chugga-chugga" metal scene and bands such as
Bloodlet and even
Slayer, but the group's ability to take a slow drudging song and ignite it shows
Harvest's potential. This is no doubt one of the better acts of the genre, and
Transitions is surely the band's best (and unfortunately final) work. ~ Kurt Morris
