Tribute to the Distillers taps various punk hopefuls to cover material from Brody and co.'s three albums. The set is then padded with tracks from influential types like
Sid Vicious and
the Exploited. New York No Stars handle
Coral Fang's "Love Is Paranoid" with an addictive, rabid edge, and the High Tigers seem to be channeling
Tim Armstrong and
Rancid into
the Distillers' "Ask the Angels." Other highlights are few, however, and
Tribute to the Distillers goes flat pretty quick. Fans would be better served buying
the Distillers' older indie releases. ~ Johnny Loftus
