Outside of Money Jungle (with
Duke Ellington and
Max Roach), there really isn't that much available featuring
Charles Mingus in a trio setting. The aptly titled
Trios adds to that, with two different trio sets performing mostly standards: seven tracks with
Hampton Hawes (piano) and
Dannie Richmond (drums), and 11 tracks with
Bud Powell (piano) and
Roy Haynes (drums). If you want to check out
Mingus in a small-group setting, this is one of few opportunities to do so. Good stuff.
