This trio includes keyboardist Pol Brennan (co-founder of
Clannad,
Guo Yue, flutist of The Guo Brothers) and
Hirota, a Japanese percussionist who has played with
Stomu Yamash'ta. They cover a broad terrain, from haunting, ethereal Deuter-like flute passages to rhythmic worldbeat numbers, plus vocals reminiscent of
Clannad. It all holds together well on this excellent release that brings diverse lands and musical worlds into a topical whole. Trísan exemplifies the hybrid creations emerging out of today's cross-cultural world music. ~ Backroads Music/Heartbeats
