"Miami Sound" this isn't, but the "General" slot is too blah for Torres's splendid recordings. A very fine Cuban sonero himself, he began blending Cuban and Colombian ingredients in the early '80s. This time the sound is mostly Cuban, with flute and fat trombones, but also splendid undercurrents of vallenato accordion. And bottom line, superb melodies and singing.
