This is the sixth solo album from Fritz Kalkbrenner, who is still charting a course out of the shadow of his brother, superstar Paul, with whom he gained fame on the hit Sky & Sand, which punctuated the film Berlin Calling. With the “deep lyrical house” formula, Fritz found his gimmick, which he tirelessly repeats on all his albums. This new release, entitled – perhaps ironically – True Colours, is no exception, alternating lyrical "house pop” (the single Kings & Queens or Last Summer, directly linked with Sky & Sand) and 100% instrumental tracks, like Bright or One Day at a Time, from sunny chill house to muffled beats and contemplative long breaks that seem cut out for FM. Although Fritz won't surprise anyone with this record, it still offers some good moments like About Face, the perfect soundtrack to an intoxicating early evening at the beach bar. © Smaël Bouaici/Qobuz
